The "S" Word

Yes, snow fell in Alabama on December 1, 2008. Most reports of light accumulation came from North Alabama but there was a report of flakes as far south as Washington County which is near the Mississippi border north of Mobile County.

My sons saw snow at their school in West Point and they had fun getting out and throwing snowballs at their classmates.

West Point [Cullman Co, AL] co-op observer reports SNOW of M0.5 INCH at 11:03 AM CST -- coop observer reported 1/2 of an inch of snowfall accumulation on grassy areas at west point.

Mentone [Dekalb Co, AL] public reports SNOW of E3.0 INCH at 11:30 AM CST -- employee at cloudmont ski and golf resort reported 3 inches of snowfall accumulation on grassy surfaces and cars.


HUN: Section [Jackson Co, AL] law enforcement reports SNOW of E0.5 INCH at 11:43 AM CST -- fyffe police in dekalb county reported snow covering roadways from scottsboro to section along highway 35.


Sewanee [Franklin Co, TN] law enforcement reports SNOW of E1.5 INCH at 12:31 PM CST -- sewanee police reported 1.5 inches of snowfall accumulation.

Skyline [Jackson Co, AL] public reports SNOW of E1.0 INCH at 12:37 PM CST -- skyline elementary reported approximately 1 inch of snowfall accumulation on grassy surfaces.


Florence [Lauderdale Co, AL] emergency mngr reports SNOW of E1.0 INCH at 12:52 PM CST -- emergency management officials reported inch of snowfall accumulation on vehicles at ema office.


Winchester [Drew Co, AR] co-op observer reports SNOW of M0.3 INCH at 01:54 PM CST -- winchester coop observer reported .3 inches of snowfall accumulation.


Huntsville [Madison Co, AL] broadcast media reports SNOW of M0.5 INCH at 02:45 PM CST -
- one half an inch of snowfall was reported by waay-tv station on monte sano.
