Let's Have A Party

A Weather Party, that is! Weather geeks of the world unite!

Cool Summer Mornings

The low this morning at my place was 59.9. Yesterday it was 60.6. Isn't that great for the end of June in Alabama?

Storms on Friday 6/23/06

I was at work yesterday, so I wasn't able to keep up with the weather as much as I would have liked, but several marginally severe storms developed in North Alabama and moved southeastward. I did go for a short walk during my break at 11:00 and took some photos of storms that were in the initial building stage. One developed right on top of Decatur and produced some extremely large raindrops as it was just beginning to develop around lunch time. I hope to post a few photos of the clouds later.

Storm Approaching Cullman

Just after sunset tonight a storm containing heavy downpours and cloud to ground lightning gave much of Cullman County some greatly needed rain. I measured .14" in Vinemont. We saw the power go out in the west part of the city of Cullman after a lightning strike in the area.

Here's a developing cumulus cloud over nothern Cullman and southernMorgan County from late this afternoon.

Hottest Day of the Year So Far

It was 98.1 today in Vinemont. Birmingham hit 100 for the first time in several years. The ground remains dry and the humidity has been unusually low in recent weeks. Humidity, temperatures, and scattered showers have increased the last few days.

Tomato Update

Cumulus clouds were trying to develop east of downtown Decatur yesterday evening. They just didn't quite make it through the cap, though...

Wheeler Wildlife Refuge

Last Friday I stopped by the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge near Decatur shortly after a thunderstorm blew through. You can tell it had been a hot, steamy day before the storm came through.

A Chilly June Morning in Bama

The low was 55.2 here in Vinemont. The boys, after getting dressed for VBS, are wrapped up in blankets on the couch in the living room.
