Storm chasers in Galveston

Keep an eye on this blog from the Long Distance Chase Team. They are staying in Galveston as they have found what they consider to be a safe four story parking deck near the hospital.

I hope they are prepared to walk out after the storm. There won't be any road to drive out on. Wouldn't surprise me to see the causway bridge get damaged. Not smart. I'll never understand why people are so obsessed with putting themselves in front of a storm surge like this.

Based on what little I know of these guys they are smart and they will be safe where at the location they chose (but it may be a bit close for comfort). I think their biggest problem may be that they could be stranded for a long time.

I think some rogue 30FT+ waves on top of the storm surge are very likely with this storm. I would never put myself in front of a Tsunami, much less one with 30ft waves on top of it. I hope they have a good amount of supplies and some Sat Phones. Having the surge coming in at night when you can't see a thing would be the scariest thing to me.

I agree. What amazes me the most, though, is that residents are not leaving their homes on sea level. This despite the fact that waters are rising an unusual amount way ahead of the storm, coupled with these dire predictions. They are paying too close attention to the Saffir Simpson scale rather than the actual surge potential.
