First hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic season



As of 5 a.m. July 7, 2008 Bertha became the first hurricane of the Atlantic season.

Maximum sustained winds are 75 mph and minimum central pressure is 987 mb.

According to the National Hurricane Center, some strengthening is likely. At this time it appears likely that the storm will recurve to the north over the Atlantic.
