Cold rain on the way

This morning's low here in Vinemont was 29 but there was no frost. Skies were overcast and the temperature began rising, albeit slowly, a little earlier than usual. The precipitation is gradually creeping northward (click on the image for time lapse). It will just be slightly too warm for snow here in North Alabama. This precipitation may initially evaporate before reaching the ground (virga) which will contribute to evaporative cooling. That, in turn, may cause the precipitation to begin as sleet. This sleet will not last long and will not cause any travel problems. Watch for bright yellow returns on radar for areas of possible sleet.
