All's quiet in the tropics, for now

NOAA is predicting 13 to 17 named storms this hurricane season, which officially began June 1. The season got off to an unusually quick start with two named storms already. Barry provided some much needed relief to drought and fire stricken South Georgia and North Florida. Seven to ten hurricanes are predicted with three to five of those being major hurricanes.

Nothing is happening of significance now in the tropics. However the water temperature at the Dauphin Island, Alabama Sea Lab Buoy is now a very warm 84! The State of Alabama has a new web site for hurricane tracking which provides numerous helpful links.

We will definitely be keeping a close eye on the tropics over the next several months!
